Jessica Lange: FX was too cheap to pay for ‘AHS set cars

Jessica Lange shaded the FX network’s “American Horror Story” during a panel at PaleyFest (via Entertainment Weekly) during which she recalled having to drive home from filming the anthology series during production on previous seasons. The Academy Award and Emmy-winning icon currently stars in “AHS 13,” marking her first appearance on the series since 2018’s “AHS: Apocalypse.”

“We had to drive ourselves,” Lange said during the panel discussion alongside franchise co-star Sarah Paulson. “We would drive home around 4 or 5 a.m., park on a street in the French Quarter and find our way home.”

Lange added that it was “always a bone of contention for her” while Paulson laughed in approval beside her. The actor, who filmed the third season of the series “Coven” in New Orleans, said FX was “too cheap” to provide cars or drivers for stars at the time.

During the show’s first four seasons, Lange helped propel “American Horror Story” to become one of the hottest shows on television. She starred in Season 1 as Constance Langdon, Season 2 as Sister Jude Martin, Season 3 as Cordelia Goode, and Elsa Mars in Season 4, which she plays again in “AHS: 13.” Lange won Emmys for her roles in the first and third seasons of the series.

Lange told “Good Morning America” before the new season debuted that the chance to play her old characters is why she returned after a year-long hiatus away from the franchise, explaining, “It was really just the idea of bringing back these four characters — and a mysterious character that I’m not going to (spoil).”

“First of all, (Ryan Murphy) talked to me about playing Constance (from Season 1), which I think was his favorite character. But I said I would come back if I could play all four characters,” Lange also said on “Live With Kelly and Mark” ahead of the season premiere.
