Jessica Lange slams ‘American Horror Story’ for being ‘too cheap’

Jessica Lange criticized FX for not ensuring transportation of the American Horror Story casting during the first seasons of the series. The 77-year-old Oscar winner, returning for season 13, called the channel “too fucking cheap.”

Speaking at PaleyFest 2026 in New York, Lange reflected on filming the franchise’s third season in New Orleans, where she starred as Fiona Goode. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she said, “We would drive home around 4 or 5 a.m., park on a street in the French Quarter and find our way home — because they were so cheap!”

Lange helped make American Horror Story a television sensation during its first four seasons. She starred as Constance Langdon in Season 1, Sister Jude Martin in Season 2, and Elsa Mars in Season 4. The actress is now back for Season 13, reprising her iconic roles. Her performances in the first and third seasons earned her Emmy Awards.

The King Kong actress previously said she would only agree to film more episodes of AHS if FX and creator Ryan Murphy met a specific condition. She discussed it during a September interview on Live With Kelly and Mark. She said: “First he talked to me about playing Constance (from season 1), who I think was his favorite character. But I said I’d come back if I could play all four characters.”

Lange said she enjoyed filming the season because she loved all four characters. She added that reprising these roles was a great experience. Season 13 also features Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman.
