JPMorgan Chase invests $5 billion in US national security companies

JPMorgan Chase announced Monday that it has invested $5 billion in companies that support U.S. national security through its Security and Resilience Initiative (SRI).

The bank launched the $1.5 trillion SRI as part of its Strategic Investment Group last year and said it has financed and facilitated more than $230 billion to boost industries, supply chains and technologies that play a critical role in national security and long-term economic resilience.

“Strong economies and national security don’t just happen. They require investments in critical infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, defense and innovation, as well as policies that encourage growth,” said Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase.

“Through SRI, we bring together capital, skills and convening power to help strengthen the industries, supply chains and workforces that support economic prosperity and national security,” added Mr. Dimon.

JPMorgan’s Strategic Investment Group invests the Company’s capital in companies of long-term strategic importance, including through direct equity investments in SRI.

The group committed $5 billion of the initial $10 billion SRI equity allocation in its first year, with funds invested in venture, growth and early-stage companies to drive growth, innovation and expansion of manufacturing capabilities.

The company’s announcement highlights that recent investments have supported next-generation defense technologies, distributed battery storage, automated manufacturing and advanced technologies.

“Our approach is to find generational companies and partner with them for the long term,” said Todd Combs, head of the strategic investing group at JPMorgan Chase.

“The Security and Resilience Initiative is an important part of this work. The $5 billion investment in our first year shows how many exceptional companies are being created in sectors that strengthen the critical supply chains and solutions our economy and security depend on,” Combs added.

The SRI has also facilitated more than $230 billion in transactions across its five priority areas over the past year.

These transactions have supported defense technology companies and manufacturers in their evolution; funded suppliers critical to the defense industrial base; facilitated investments in next-generation nuclear and geothermal energy; increased national capacity for critical minerals and metals; Advanced AI, cybersecurity and quantum computing; and strengthened production and supply chains of essential medicines.

JPMorgan Chase said that as SRI enters its second year, the company will seek to translate value chain knowledge into action by supporting companies that can expand critical capabilities, developing structures that make strategic projects financeable, strengthening supplier and workforce ecosystems, and expanding cross-border policy coordination.
