FAIRFIELD, California. —
Newly obtained video shows the terrifying moments shoppers ducked for cover as gunfire erupted at a Spirit Halloween store in downtown Solano in Fairfield Friday night, leaving one woman dead and six others injured.
The video, obtained by KCRA 3, captures a loud bang followed by a woman gasping, “Oh my God.” Moments later, someone can be heard repeatedly pleading, “Please, please, please,” as shoppers crouch on the ground.
Emergency dispatch audio captured the response as authorities worked to evacuate and clean the mall.
“We have about 30 people coming out of the mall,” a dispatcher can be heard saying.
Madeline Francia told KCRA 3 she was inside the store shortly before the shooting.
“We decided the line was too long and we had already been waiting there for about half an hour,” Francia said. She said they left just minutes before the shots were fired.
Francia later witnessed the police response.
“I saw cops coming with guns,” she said.
Fairfield police identified the woman killed as 31-year-old Constance Hages. Her family told investigators she was pregnant, although authorities said that information would be confirmed by the Solano County coroner.
Three other victims, men aged 16, 19 and 32, remained in critical condition Saturday. A 23-year-old man was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, while two other men, aged 19 and 43, were treated and released.
Investigators believe the shooting, reported around 8:30 p.m., stemmed from a targeted incident involving a suspect. No arrests had been announced as of Saturday evening and police had not publicly identified the person they were looking for.
The violence has left some Fairfield families feeling uneasy about Halloween celebrations.
Rachel Segura told KCRA 3 she visited the same store with her children earlier in the day.
“It blows my mind,” Segura said after learning of the deadly shooting.
Segura said the incident made her more cautious about taking her children out without other family members.
“Because you don’t know,” she responded, referring to the uncertainty surrounding the suspect.
Downtown Solano canceled its planned Halloween event Saturday. The FBI’s Sacramento office is assisting Fairfield police in the investigation.
