New Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Trailer Is A Throwback To 90s N64 Ads

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time may not be Nintendo’s next Switch 2 exclusive (don’t worry Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, we haven’t forgotten about you), but the next November 5 The release date means the marketing campaign is in full swing.

We’re currently getting new trailers, shorts, and TV spots all over the place, as well as the new “Are You Ready?” The advert shared by Nintendo UK left us sufficiently excited and unexpectedly reminded us of the adverts for the original N64 back in the 90s.

The new trailer (above) doesn’t feature any new footage, but the whole thing is extremely badass. You have scenes from the game interspersed with screens of fiery text asking questions like “Do you want to run?” Or fight? while bombastic brass tunes echo in the background. Come on, how can that not leaves you excited?

All these riffs on the TV trailers for the original version, let’s not forget. These used a similar OTT backing track (from Conan, no less) and used the same fiery lyric, controversially touting the catchphrase “Will you have the girl? Or play like one?” – later changed to “Do you want to soar? Or will you suck?” for obvious reasons. We’ve linked one of these OG trailers below, so you can see the similarities for yourself.

For a game like Ocarina of Time, it seems only fitting that Nintendo would tackle nostalgia marketing – which doesn’t getting a little misty-eyed thinking about their first time playing it, huh? Only a few weeks left before we can dive again!
