‘Rockford Files’ Reboot Sets NBC Release Date, Launches Hotline

NBC has set the premiere date for “The Rockford Files” reboot starring David Boreanaz.

The new version of the classic series will air its first episode on Saturday, January 2 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT immediately following the NFL Night telecast. It will then be available to stream the next day on Peacock. The show will then move to its regular timeslot on Thursday, January 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

And in keeping with the iconic answering machine message at the start of the original show, NBC has launched a Jim Rockford hotline that fans can actually call. You can call (760) JIM-ROCK to hear a message from Boreanaz and sign up for text message updates from the show.

Check out an announcement for the hotline below.

The logline for the new “Rockford Files” states: “Newly paroled after serving time for a crime he didn’t commit, James Rockford returns to his life as a private investigator using his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles. It doesn’t take long for his quest for legitimacy to place him squarely in the crosshairs of local police and organized crime.”

Alongside Boreanaz, the cast includes Michaela McManus, Ilfenesh Hadera and Jacki Weaver. Mike Daniels serves as writer and executive producer, while Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman and David Hudgins also serve as executive producers. Universal Television is the studio.

The original “Rockford Files,” created by Roy Huggins and Stephen J. Cannell, aired on NBC from 1974 to 1980 with James Garner in the lead role. The show ultimately aired for over 120 episodes, while Garner reprized the role of Rockford in eight television movies on CBS between 1994 and 1999.
