President Donald Trump said he had ordered the Justice Department to open an investigation into Democratic lawmakers “threatening” to impeach Attorney General Todd Blanche, among others.

The announcement, which was made via a Truth Social article Saturday afternoon, came after Democrats regained control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections, winning strong majorities in both chambers of Congress.

“Democrats are threatening many people, including the United States Attorney General and others, with impeachment and many other forms of punishment, even though they admit they have no reason to do so,” Trump wrote.

Since Election Day, two House Democrats — Reps. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., and Deborah Ross, D-N.C. – publicly stated that they would support Blanche’s impeachment.

“I personally believe that Todd Blanche’s offenses require that he be impeached, convicted and removed from office,” Johnson said Thursday in an interview on SiriusXM’s “The Dan Abrams Show.”

Ross hosted Dan Abrams’ radio show shortly after Johnson and said she also supported Blanche’s impeachment, but thought Democrats “should start with Hegseth.”

In his message, Trump denied that any “implied acts” were committed by Blanche or any other administration official. He did not mention Johnson or Ross by name, nor did he mention that Thomas Massie, R-Ky., would likely reintroduce articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Monday.

Trump has nominated only one Democratic politician, Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, to his post. He accused her of having declared that she would “attack all young people who believe in republican values”.

Trump appears to have referenced comments Slotkin made on October 13 at the University of Chicago about pursuing “signature cases” against people who “enabled” Trump.

“I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration? Sounds fun, maybe I’ll get an opportunity.’I want them to say, ‘God, this could buy me a ton of trouble that I don’t want, so let me avoid getting involved in this,'” Slotkin said. “I want that message of deterrence to be sent.”

Trump also said Democrats were threatening Republican donors with “jail” because of their views.

The president did not identify the donors who were allegedly threatened. Democrats, however, have indicated they plan to investigate some major Republican donors and businesses when they take control of Congress, Reuters reported this week. This could include donors to the White House ballroom.

Trump concluded his message by saying that “these EXTORTIONISTS” should be jailed and that he wanted the DOJ to investigate the alleged actions as a “criminal act.”
